Now lets talk a bit about fiberglass products, just as with other suppliers of fiberglass RC products, there will be blemishes. You will see pin holes when you go to finish it for paint.
We recommend the following if you plan on doing the Primer and prep work yourself.
Get a good high build primer such as Restoration Shop

  • Spray a medium coat and sand down with 600 ~ 800 grit
  • Repeat this until you sand out any fisheye(s) and pinhole(s)
  • Wet sand to minimum 3000 grit
  • tack cloth down and spray a base coat such as Stitts Aerothane

Description

This is a reproduction Engine Pod for the Laker made by Balsa USA. we use a combination of 2~6 ounce e-weave fiberglass and west systems epoxy and 3m filllers to produce a high quality scale product. Please note that as in any non-bagged fiberglass process, minor imperfections such as fiberglass overlaping areas and brush marks may show through from the inside as can be seen in the picture.

A little about the model for reference only:

The Balsa USA Laker is a scale model amphibious aircraft kit designed for aerobatic flying. It features balsa wood, bass wood, and plywood parts, and is designed for .40 to .46 2-stroke engines or .50 to .70 4-stroke engines. The model has a wingspan of 70 inches and a fuselage length of 59 inches. It includes removable bolt-on wings for easy transport and ABS plastic cowl, sponsoons, and clear canopy. The kit comes with full-size plans, a photo instruction book, jig & die-cut parts, pre-bent wire landing gear, and basic hardware.
