Now lets talk a bit about fiberglass products, just as with other suppliers of fiberglass RC products, there will be blemishes. You will see pin holes when you go to finish it for paint.
We recommend the following if you plan on doing the Primer and prep work yourself.
Get a good high build primer such as Restoration Shop

  • Spray a medium coat and sand down with 600 ~ 800 grit
  • Repeat this until you sand out any fisheye(s) and pinhole(s)
  • Wet sand to minimum 3000 grit
  • tack cloth down and spray a base coat such as Stitts Aerothane

Fiberglass Parts (Large)

Large size cowls get the following:
(2x) - 4oz cloth to top and bottom
(2X) - 4oz cloth to sides
(1x) - 7oz cloth to front, top and bottom
(1x) - 7oz cloth to sides


Finishing Options

We spray our molds with a grey epoxy primer prior to fiberglassing. By doing this, pinholes are a thing of the past and the parts just look better.

Description

This is a reproduction cowl for the P-51 made by Pica. we use a combination of 2~6 ounce e-weave fiberglass and west systems epoxy and 3m filllers to produce a high quality scale product. Please note that as in any non-bagged fiberglass process, minor imperfections such as fiberglass overlaping areas and brush marks may show through from the inside as can be seen in the picture.

The Pica 1/6 Scale P-51 Mustang is a scale model aircraft kit of the P-51 Mustang, a legendary WWII fighter plane. The kit includes balsa wood, plywood, and ABS plastic parts, and is designed for .90 to 1.20 4-stroke engines or .60 to 1.08 2-stroke engines. It features ailerons, elevator, rudder, and throttle controls for precise maneuvering. The model has a wingspan of 74 inches and a length of 59 inches. It also comes with full-size plans, a photo instruction book, jig & die-cut parts, pre-bent wire landing gear, and wheel pants.
